Open Meeting on Statistical Capacity Building: Mentoring, Curriculum Development, and Models for Collaboration
Thursday, 30 July 2015 – 12:40—14:00 hrs
All delegates are invited to this open meeting where we will discuss several issues related to statistical capacity building (SCB). The meeting will focus on two specific aspects of SCB, but there will be time for discussion of other issues.
The first topic is mentoring of statisticians in early careers, especially those from developing countries. We will discuss the needs, possible mentoring models, and how the ISI can partner with National Statistical Societies, National Statistical Offices and other organisations to develop suitable programmes.
The second area is state-of-the-art curriculum development and sharing of course materials for undergraduate and graduate programmes. The discussion will explore models for collaborations between institutions in developing and developed countries, sharing information, and promoting interactions among teachers in distant institutions.
The ISI has set up two task forces to examine possible activities in these directions. Your input at this open meeting will greatly benefit the work of these groups.
