The following opportunities are already advertised:

 

EFTA sponsorship for the short courses

Funding opportunities are available for younger participants (< 40 years) from South and Latin America who aim to expand the statistical capacity in their country through participating in the short course programme.

Candidates must be or become ISI members (regular or elected). The selection process considers the need for capacity building, including aspects such as country of residence (higher priority to the least developed countries), age of the applicant as well as the applicant’s potential to contribute to the statistical capacity in the region.
Funding will consist of reimbursement of return airfare (or other travel mode), registration and visa fees, and an amount of funding for reasonable accommodation.

The deadline for submissions was 20 March 2015.

The World Bank Fund (WBF)

The quality of the candidate’s contribution to the WSC is one of the main selection criteria. Speakers in invited, special topics, contributed, and poster sessions will be considered for this funding. If you are not already a speaker in an invited or special topics session and your paper is selected for WB funding, it will be placed in a contributed or poster session in the scientific programme. Candidates who have not received funding from the WBF in the past will have priority.

Candidates must be permanent residents of a developing country, and must be ISI members (regular or elected). The selection process considers the need for capacity building, including aspects such as country of residence (higher priority to the least developed countries), age of the applicant and minority groups, as well as the applicant’s potential to contribute to the statistical infrastructure in the region.

Funding will consist of return airfare, registration and visa fees, and an amount of funding for reasonable accommodation. Candidates may also choose to attend one short course, with registration and accommodation for this also covered.

Karl Pearson Prize for Contemporary Research Contribution

The ISI’s Karl Pearson Prize recognizes a contemporary research contribution, published within the last three decades, that has had profound influence on statistical theory, methodology, practice, or applications. The prize is sponsored by Elsevier B.V. It comprises a cash award of 5,000 euros, and the winner presents the Karl Pearson Lecture at the ISI2015.

Nominations were due in the ISI Office by 15 November 2014.

Mahalanobis International Award in Statistics

The Mahalanobis International Award is sponsored by the Government of India. It is awarded to a statistician from a developing country in recognition of lifetime achievements in Statistics and the promotion of best statistical practices in a developing country or countries.The Mahalanobis award consists of return ticket to the ISI2015, per diem payment for accommodation and other living expenses while participating at the WSC, and a monetary award of US$ 10,000.

Jan Tinbergen Competition for Young Statisticians

The Jan Tinbergen Awards are for best papers by young statisticians from developing countries. Up to three awards are made for each WSC. In addition to a cash prize, generously provided by the Dutch ‘Stichting Internationaal Statistisch Studiefonds’, the winners receive support to enable their participation at ISI2015 and present their winning papers.

The deadline for applications was 10 December 2014.

2015 IASS Cochran-Hansen Prize

The Cochran-Hansen Prize of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) is awarded for the best paper on survey research methods submitted by a young statistician from a developing or transition country. The prize winner will be invited to present his or her paper at the ISI2015. In addition, the prize consists of books and journal subscriptions in the value of €500.

The deadline for submission of papers for the 2015 prize was 15 February 2015.

2015 IAOS Young Statisticians Prize

To encourage more young statisticians to take an active interest in official statistics, the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS) announced its next annual competition for the best paper in the field of official statistics written by a young statistician. In addition to the monetary prizes, the first place winner will receive travel funds to present the paper at one of the sessions at the ISI 2015 Conference.

Papers must have been submitted until 15 December 2014.

Extraordinary contest for IASI Award for Excellence

The IASI Award is aimed at identifying and recognizing new talents in the area of Statistics in the American region, to attract their attention towards the Institute, stimulate their action in favor of statistical development in the region, and facilitate the dissemination of relevant work of young statisticians.

The winner will receive free registration to 60th WSC, a round-trip air ticket between his (her) place of residence and Rio de Janeiro, and a reasonable allowance for accommodation and meals for the days of the Congress.

Papers must have been submitted until 16 February 2015.
